All of the Midland County criminal courts are located inside of the Midland County Courthouse located at 500 N Loraine Street, Midland, TX 79701.

Midland County has five district courts (but one district court handles only family cases) and two county courts at law. The county courts at law handle most misdemeanor offenses, while the district courts handle felony offenses.

  • County Court at Law 1
    • Judge Mark Dettman currently presides over County Court at Law 1 in Midland County. Judge Dettman ran for judge at 70 years old in 2022 as a Republican. Dettman served three terms as county attorney (1985-97). Dettman served for years as the Chaplain Unit coordinator for the Midland Police Department.
  • County Court at Law 2
    • As of 2024, Judge Marvin L. Moore presides over County Court at Law 2 in Midland County. Judge Moore is a career county government employee who has never worked as an attorney in private practice or criminal defense. Prior to becoming a judge, he was a career prosecutor. Judge Moore is a Republican judge.

District Courts in Midland County

  • 142nd District Court
    • Judge David G. Rogers presides over the 142nd District Court in Midland County. Judge Rogers ran as a Republican and won his election in 2022.
  • 238th District Court
    • Judge Elizabeth Byer Leonard presides over the 238th District Court in Midland. She won the seat in a special election in 2012. Prior to being elected, she was a landman and a special prosecutor. She ran unopposed in the Republican primary in 2014, and she has been on the bench ever since.

    • As of 2024, Leah G. Robertson presides over Midland’s 385th District Court. Gov. Greg Abbot appointed her to the bench in 2020. Judge Robertson worked for the Midland District Attorney’s Office for four years prior to becoming judge. She worked for less than two years in private practice. Her resume is otherwise limited to working for the Midland government.

    • Judge Jeffrey T. Robnett presides over Midland’s 441st District Court. Judge Robnett was elected in 2018. He is a graduate of both Princeton and Texas Tech.
